Artist Spotlight: Livio Ramondelli

Well, it’s been about 6 months since I’ve done an Artist Spotlight, and to be honest I don’t really have a good excuse.  I’ll admit I was getting a little burned out on them, but I’ve had some of Mr. Ramondelli’s art saved on my computer for a good long while now.  The important thing is that I’m doing it now, right?

Anyway, Livio Ramondelli is a name I first saw at NYCC a few years ago.  Though I thought he just did fan work at the time, I since learned that he’s actually done some official Star Wars covers for Dark Horse (along with work for numerous other franchises).  I bought one of his prints, but as it happens he wasn’t actually at his booth when I did; his neighbor did the two of us a solid and sold me one on his behalf.  I first met Livio at last year’s NYCC, where, if you may recall from my NYCC recap post, I bought some of his pieces printed on sheet metal.  I cannot overstate how fantastic these look.  They were over twice the cost of a regular print, but in my mind they’re worth every penny.  I haven’t seen Livio’s art available online anywhere, but he does a bunch of con appearances across the country (all listed on his DeviantArt page), and he has them available there.  Maybe try reaching out to him through that account, if you can’t wait/make it to a convention.  I can tell you right now that if I wind up going to NYCC again this year I will assuredly be purchasing more of his art, all of which I will not have space for.  For some of his pieces, Livio uploaded both the original pencil work and updated color versions.  I’ll included both versions for a few of them, mostly because I think it’s fun to see the contrast between the original and final works.

Tidbits

-I picked up Grievous vs. Clone Troopers and Boba Fett Escaping the Sarlacc on sheet metal last NYCC, and the year before I grabbed Vader on Hoth.

-Livio also has his own website here where you can see more of his art.

-I really want to grab his Clone War piece, but the Palpatine one has caught my eye as well.  Next NYCC, perhaps?
