This week’s spotlight is on Dave Dorman, an artist originally from Michigan. Dave’s been drawing for Star Wars since the dawn of the modern Expanded Universe, being the cover artist for Dark Empire. While probably most famous for his comic and book covers from the 1990’s, Dave has also done some truly excellent prints for several Celebrations, and is still doing comic covers here and there. His covers for Crimson Empire, a personal favorite of mine, are among the most iconic from the Dark Horse era. I grabbed a few images from his website, but most I grabbed from Wookieepedia.

– I do own several pieces of art by Mr. Dorman. I have a copy of his excellent Celebration IV, remarqued with a drawing of Emperor Palpatine, and a print of the third Tales of the Jedi cover up there, remarqued with Tott Doneeta, the Twi’lek. Just so you know, my copy of his Celebration IV print, and I assume all of those prints, actually has a set of Imperial officers tucked in the background that aren’t present in the image I took from Wookieepedia. I debated switching images, but the Wookieepedia one does have excellent resolution, so I let it stay. On top of those prints, I have bought a few issues of comics specifically because of Dave Dorman’s cover art.
– If you want to purchase some of Dave’s art, take a look at his site’s store here. He’s got a lot of cool pieces in there.
